Knotting ... netting ... knitting...
If you're not on the ancestralways list, you might want to know:
Ernie is teaching knotwork at Cascadia Wild on Monday night. Very useful
skills for all kinds of crafts. You might be particularly interested
in decorative knots that make good buttons, or "frogs," for closing garments
and bags. If you want to ask him about details, he's at eawisner at gmail.com.
Practical Knots for Impractical Situations
Monday, October 22nd
7-9 pm
Cascadia Wild!
3945 SE Hawthorne Blvd.
503-235-9533

Coming sooner than you think:
BYO Basketry workshop
the Monday after Thanksgiving -- that's November 26th, 7-9pm, at Cascadia
Wild.
I'll bring harakeke techniques from New Zealand (a great way to use that
spiky decorative plant that's been popping up all over Portland in recent
years.) Another basketmaker's bringing ivy baskets; another, cordage.
What would you like to bring?
If you don't care for baskets, you're welcome to bring another textile
project and treat it as a craft night. Bring a finished basket for us to
reverse-engineer. Or bring some creative, raw material to play with:
flexible twigs, vines, twine, yarn, paper, etc.
Take-home instructions will be provided for novices, with basic how-to's
of coiled, twined, and woven basketry.
Yours,
Erica Ritter
